Final Major Project (Beginning)

FMP - Final Major Project

First day back at University and we had an hour long introduction to the coursework we would be doing for our final year. I knew I wanted to create a portfolio for my final major project, something to showcase to potential employers, and that I would like to create either a small trailer or splash art showcasing the designs I would create throughout this final year. After speaking to my tutors I realised we would have to create an art book to showcase our 2D work rather than a mixed portfolio, I was told it might be easier and look better if I stuck to one sort of theme to create the art book.

So for my FMP I've decided to create a themed art book, based on folklore and mythology around the world. My goal is to create an art book for an open world, RPG, MMO type video game. I also want to push the boundaries of my own designs and creativity, as fantasy style designs and art is not something I do very often.

I've broken down the designs into five areas based on mythology, so we have British folklore, Norse, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece and Chinese/Japanese folklore. Each area or zone will have environment, creatures, 'playable' races etc based on the culture and the myths from that area. For example, British Zone will have playable races like Dwarves, Elves and Humans and the Egyptian area will have races based on creatures like the Djinn (genies, which was a big part of Egyptian myths).

Further in to the design process and creation I will develop unique names for each zone, but the idea is to create five zones based and numerous fables but the base story is the same. So if it was a playable game your character would travel to different areas in order to complete the end game quest...which I will work on a basic story premise later on to go with the designs, for presentation purposes and to hopefully make creating art work easier.

I also completely updated my Artstation and signed up for linkedin this week which you can visit here:
